Altering 'track' heights Help Home
This portion of the program has been expanded quite a bit from the original version of TRKadjust. You will first be told that the program will both Read and Write to the TRK file and give you an option to make a backup of the original TRK file as *.OLD. Click YES to select this option and NO to ignore it.
The next item is to choose the TRK file to alter. It can be anywhere on your computer but note that the KUID descriptions will not be present if you haven't locatged the Trainz executable file yet..
Once the TRK file is chosen, you will then be presented with a screen full of KUID information in a list box. This is a list of ALL the KUIDs in the TRK file, and will show not only the KUIDs but any additional information to help choose which KUID to alter. Built-in content is loaded at the start of the program (thus you have a warning screen to wait while it is being loaded) and the KUID display list contains information following the KUID.
The KUID display screen has a Print menu consisting of two choices:
To Printer - to your default printer
To File - - - To a text file in the map folder
The displayed KUID information is in the order of:
KIND ; KUID ; USERNAME ; REGION ; TYPE
First, the built-in content is searched, then any KUID folders you may have in the
folder. The program will open each config.txt file of the listed KUID and search for the above namedkeywords. If located, the field information is added to the KUID list following the KUID.
NOTE: TRKadjust will NOT search for KUID folders elsewhere (such as in the "\custom\track" folder).
You may select one, many, or all of the KUID's to alter. Simply click the entry to put a check in the adjacent checkbox to select that KUID. To facilitate your selections, three buttons have been added: 'Select All', 'Clear All', and 'Invert Selections'. The 'Invert Selections' button will check unchecked items and uncheck previously checked items.
If you do not select ANY entries and click the 'Continue' button, TRKadjust will tell you this and return to the main screen. This is done because adjusting tracks should not be taken lighty and so you are returned to the main screen to start again.
Following KUID selection, click one of the other two buttons on the bottom of the page: 'Cancel' or 'Continue'. Clicking the Cancel button will discard everything you have done and return you to the main screen. Continue will move you to the entry of an adjustment value.
You will now be asked to enter an adjustment value. Please remember that this value is in METERS not feet. To convert feet into meters, multiply the foot value by 0.3048 to get Meters. Theoretically, there is NO limit, but I have found that raising track by more than 30 or 35 Meters moves it visibly out of sight and you will have a hard time seeing it. Using a negative value will push the track down through the terrain board. It can then be seen by pressing the F9 key to go into grid mode. This entry also allows you to effectively "Cancel" by accepting a value of '0.0' - which does nothing. I have found that some tracks, when laid, will appear to be 'floating' just slightly above the train board. Using a value of -0.30 or less will move those tracks down to board level. Be aware that moving tracks will also move all items that attach to track - such as Triggers, Track marks, Track direction marks, and the like.
At that point, the adjustment begins. For large files this may take a while. The mouse will go into hourglass mode while adjustments are being made. Once it returns to normal, the adjustment is completed. A message will also appear telling you the adjustments are finished.
Once the tracks are adjusted you can load the map up into Surveyor and use the terrain adjust tools available to do what you wish to the terrain to match the new track height (or depth).
PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:
For built-in content I used my installation of TRS2004 Ver 2.4 (Build 2365). Some built-in content in your installation may differ. Also, for the program to locate downloaded KUIDs, you must choose the Menu item for Locate TRS2004.exe.
Industry-aware content may become 'un-attached' to adjusted
track. You should ALWAYS go over your route to look for such items
and re-attach them.
